The Ground Control Station (GCS) Subsystem serves as a platform to monitor and control the UAV activities in real time.
- The GCS closes the control loop on the UAV by assigning waypoints and high-level camera operations tailored to completing the objectives of the competition.
- The design of the GCS emphasizes autonomy, such that human intervention is minimal during the nominal operation except at the beginning of the mission when mission parameters have to be defined.
- However, there is no reduction in an operator’s ability to fluidly modify mission parameters in-flight if circumstances require it. Students in the GCS subsystem are responsible for developing the custom GCS software package and GUI interface as well as the design and assembly of the GCS hardware.
