The Autopilot, or Guidance, Navigation and Controls (GNC) Subsystem is the brain of the UAV that determines where and how the UAV operates.

  • Students in the GNC Subsystem are responsible for developing an efficient guidance algorithm that would generate a list of waypoints to fulfill a specified mission, implement an autopilot system that is capable of driving the UAV to the desired GPS location, altitude, and airspeed at the required precision and fine tune the control laws specific to the aircraft to achieve required robustness and performance.
  • Furthermore, the GNC subsystem is also responsible for developing failsafe and emergency measures in the event of any communication or autopilot failure.
